Incidents of arson and violence were reported from different parts of the town that left more than six people injured. One of the injured was referred to Nagpur in Maharashtra.
“Police in strength has been deployed across the town and prohibitory orders have been imposed under Section 144 of CrPc,” Seoni superintendent of police AK Pandey told Hindustan Times.
The Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad purportedly took out a motorcycle procession in the town to mark the Hindu New Year.

After the procession ended, some people had an altercation with a Muslim near the Chota Mission School.The altercation soon turned ugly with both sides pelting stones. Before the police could control the situation, violence erupted in Bhairoganj and Sufi Nagar areas where the mob set ablaze over half a dozen vehicles.
Violence was also reported in Shukrawari area where the police had to resort to cane charge to quell the mob.
Seoni Kotwali police sources said five to six men who were part of the saffron brigade’s procession were detained for questioning in connection with the violence.
