Police arrested three youths, including a juvenile, on the charge of attempting to attack a Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) activist at Kenikarai junction here on Tuesday night.
The police said HMK spokesperson Sendhur Pandi was travelling on a two-wheeler with his friend, when the youths, armed with lethal weapons, attempted to attack him. He, however, escaped from the scene, leaving behind his vehicle.
The youths damaged his vehicle before fleeing from the spot, the police said. On the instruction of Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan, the police raided a locality and secured three persons.
The police identified them as Sadam Hussain (25), Mohamed Nizarudhin (23) and a 16-year-old boy. They were arrested under Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Private Properties (Prevention of Damages and Loss) Act and under the provisions of the Arms Act.
The police said they recovered an aruval (long sickle) from the three, who were later produced before the Magistrate Court and remanded in judicial custody.
