Members of the Hindu Society of Maidenhead were joined by the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Around 60 people attended the celebration at St Piran’s School in Gringer Hill on Sunday.
The society first began as a group of friends that would meet up regularly.
Now the registered charity is supported by volunteers and meets monthly, on the first Sunday at St Piran’s School.
The society combined the 10th anniversary party with an early celebration of Indian Independence Day, which is on August 15.
Seema Sharma, who is on the group’s working committee, gave a speech about what the society has achieved in the past ten years.
Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead, Cllr Eileen Quick, also spoke at the event.
She wished the group good luck and expressed her support of the society’s wish to have a Hindu temple in Maidenhead.
Speaking after the event, Swati Rao, also on the working committee, said: “We were really happy with the day.
“The society has grown from just meeting now and then to putting on functions every month.
“We’ve been part of the community for a long time and we’re trying to get our own temple and this is something we would love to be able to do soon.”
