A MONK who has travelled across the world sharing wisdom is now bringing his spiritual knowledge to Maroondah residents.

Acarya Krpamayananda Avadhuta, known as Dada, is a monk and yoga teacher who works for charity Seva Dharma Mission.

He completed his training in India 26 years ago, and worked there until 1992, when he moved to Africa to do relief work and help build schools and hospitals.

He then completed similar work in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia before settling in Melbourne.

He is now spreading word on all the benefits yoga can bring to someone’s life.

“Most people think that yoga means physical postures or physical exercises but it actually means unifying a person’s soul with supreme consciousness,” Dada said.

Dada is holding sessions each Friday from 7pm to 8pm at Ringwood East hall, Knaith Rd until March 25.

“Yoga is now a multi-billion dollar industry, and it continues to expand into nearly every facet of modern-day life,” Dada said.

“Needless to say, the yoga of today has moved a long way away from its historical foundations.

“If people are serious about learning yoga, they need to make sure they learn how it affects each sphere of human nature — physical, mental and spiritual, and not just focus on the physical aspect.”
