JAMMU: Situation in Jammu was “tense” on Friday as Sikh youth defied prohibitory orders and held protests in various areas as part of a three-day old agitation. The protests kept the Jammu Pathankot National Highway blocked till late night.
Protests were also held in Kashmir besides Poonch, Rajouri and other parts of Jammu region on Friday over the death of a youth in clashes that erupted on Thursday after hundreds of Sikhs blocked road and pelted stones at cops over removal of posters of Khalistani militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
In order to diffuse the prevailing tension, police on Friday registered an FIR against the constable who opened fire Thursday at agitating Sikhs demanding to install posters and hold Samagam in remembrance of Khalistan extremist Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale in which a youth was killed in Gadigarh area.
”The family members of the deceased agreed for the post-mortem after an FIR was registered against the constable Mukesh Saini,”a police official said.
