RSS appoints new Goa unit chief, secretary

RSSChief_MohanBhagwat_PTI2PANAJI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has announced a new chief for its Goa unit as the former chief, after being ousted from RSS, has set up a new RSS Goa prant and declared himself as the chief.

Laxman ‘Nana’ Vaman Behre, 62, will be the RSS Goa vibhag sanghcahalak. Mahesh Dhavalikar, a professor of Goa Engineering College, will be the new secretary for RSS Goa vibhag.

Behre, a resident of Borim, Ponda will replace RSS Goa prant chief Subhash Velingkar who was recently removed as it was perceived that he had crossed the line by embarking upon a confrontation with the BJP government here.

In defiance of his ouster, Velingkar formed a new RSS Goa prant and declared himself as the chief.

The two appointments have been made on the eve of a meeting the breakaway group of Velingkar has organized at Bambolim on Sunday to apprise swayamsevaks about the recent developments in the state.

Speaking to STOI, senior leader of RSS Goa Vibhag, Ratnakar Lele, confirmed the two appointments. Behre had joined RSS in the year 1977 as swayamsevak and presently he is the secretary of Keshav Seva Sadhana, which is a voluntary organization started in 1992 and is working for underprivileged sections of the society, especially in education and health sectors.
