Press release of Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF) Hello Sir/Madam, Greetings for the day!!! MWIFF is India’s Biggest Women’s Festival supported by Govt. of Maharashtra that explores the art of culture through cinema, it’s a new concept that has catered especially to the women and it thus received a lot of appreciation for its initiative from Media and Festival Associates last year. The festival is thus coming up with its second edition. MWIFF’s mission and vision focuses on two important aspects : Women Empowerment and Exchange of Art and Culture of India through the medium of Cinema, as movies are undoubtedly the strongest medium of art, if meant to show the things, situations, people and individuals as they ought to be, then they become the leading force of change in society and strengthens the values of individuality.
The festival comprises of 2 categories namely Competitive Category that includes Short Films, Documentary Films, and Feature Films and the Non- Competitive Category that includes World Cinebusters, World Panorama and World Premiere. MWIFF has this year introduced a Social Campaign and film category, ‘City for Women’ – ‘City for Women’ is an initiative that has been taken to represent the bond and the connection that has established between the women and the city – Mumbai. The list of Festival Jury members comprises of: 1. Director Nupur Asthana known for films like ‘Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge’, ‘Bewakoofiyaan‘. 3. Writer & Director Devika Bhagat who has done commendable job in films like ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’,’Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and many more. 4. Writer Manisha Korde famous for films like ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ and ‘Billu’. 5. Writer Shibani Bhatija who has worked in ‘My Name Is Khan’, ‘Fanaa’, etc. 6. Cinematographer Nirmal Jani who is known for his work in Border (1997), Zakhm (1998) and Dushman (1998). Mumbai Women’sInternational Film Festival (MWIFF) launches a Social campaign and film Category ‘City for Women’ This December, Oculus Creations is organizing the second edition of Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF). Slated from the 6th to 13th of the same month, MWIFF is a platform prepared to give the ‘spotlight to women’. The festival seeks to exhibit the work of creative minds through Short Films, Documentary Films & Feature Films coming under Competition category and World Cinebusters, World Panorama & World Premiere coming under the Non-Competition category. The festival has introduced a Social Campaign and Film Category under the Competitive section namely ‘City for Women’ that will represent the bond and the connection between the women and the city –Mumbai. There is no entry fee for this category and the films can be in any form- Short Film, Music Video, Documentary Film, Ad Film or Animation Film. Commenting on it Programming Director, Mr Chintan Kuvadia said , ‘‘City for Women is the Social Campaign through which the festival aims to depict and honour women’s existence, wisdom, power and courage as they are turned into films and gain mainstream recognition.” The Jury panel of MWIFF has some eminent filmmakers of Bollywood industry like Director Nupur Asthana known for her film ‘’Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge’; Writer & directorDevika Bhagat known for films like ‘’Jab Tak Hai Jaan’,’Bachna Ae Haseeno’; writer Manisha Korde who has worked in critically acclaimed film ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’; writer Shibani Bhatija who has worked blockbuster hits like ‘My Name Is Khan’, ‘Fanaa’ to name a few and Cinematographer Nirmal Jani who is known for his work in Border, Zakhm and Dushman. The event, which claims to have something for those behind the camera and those in front of it, will see 8 days of film screenings, closing night networking parties, industry panels, post-screening discussions, celebrities, an award ceremony and a pink carpet. The film submissions have already begun. The festival also accepts entries from male participants.
