Plans for a Hindu community centre will be on show at a consultation next week so neighbours can have their say.The Hindu Society of Maidenhead wants to build a centre on land next to Boulter’s Lock car park in Lower Cookham Road.
The building will be one storey and will include a hall and a kitchen, so the society can hold educational, cultural and social events.
Chander Mohan Malhotra, president of Maidenhead Hindu Society, said: “The building will have all the facilities that the society needs, and there will be a partition wall in the hall.
“There is also the possibility that the community will be able to rent out the hall, subject to availability.
“We’ve been working on this for a long time.
“The elderly members of the society currently have to go to Slough for big events, so it’s not easy for them to get to.
“After the consultation, and if we get permission, we hope to start as soon as possible.”
The society will pay for the building with fund-raising and donations.
The Hindu Society currently meets at St Piran’s on the first Sunday of each month. Earlier this month it celebrated its 11th anniversary.
The consultation will take place at the Thames Hotel on Ray Mead Road on Wednesday at 5-7pm.
