PHRRP US Directors Visits Pakistani Hindu Refugee Camp In Rajasthan, Review Progress

JODHPUR, RAJASTHAN (JAN 04, 2015):

PHRRP US based directors Rahul Chandra and Kavita Tekchandani visited Pakistani Hindu refugee camps based out of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Kavita Tekchandani – a board member of PHRRP (Pakistani Hindu Refugee Relief)  program visited Pakistani Hindu refugee camps based out of Gokul Ji Ka Pyau, she also paid a visit to other refugee camps in Jodhpur. In her day long visit she gathered updated requirements of Pakistani Hindu refugees and interacted in person with Hindu refugees. She also visited Mr. Hindu Singh Soda – a prominent leader of Pakistani Hindu refugees in Jodhpur. PHRRP (Pakistani Hindu Refugee Relief)  program is an umbrella forum of multiple US based organizations and has been actively working for relief programs since 2012. Current scope of PHRRP (Pakistani Hindu Refugee Relief)  program is Hindu refugee areas in New Delhi and Jodhpur, with further expansion projection in Bikaner and Jaisalmer areas where most refugees are based.

Later in the evening PHRRP director Rahul Chandra visited Pkaistani Hindu refugee camp in person where a humble welcome was organized by Hindu refugees in Jodhpur. Meeting was attended by senior VHP Jodhpur leaders which include many doctors associated with Dr. Pravin Togadia landmark India Heath Line program. Doctors there planned to organize and implement health camps for Pakistani Hindu refugees. The meeting was also attended by local municipal corporation officers, officers from CID – Central Intelligence Department and Vikram Parihar – PHRRP local coordinator.  It was learnt that the new national Government led by Hon. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Hon. Indian Home minister Rajnath Singh has established task forces across country to expedite long term VISA programs for Pakistani Hindu refugees and under the current national Govt. Pakistani Hindu refugees feel more safe and optimistic. One major requirement of Pakistani Hindu refugees as captured from New Delhi and Rajasthan is allotment of permanent land for settlement so that toilets (inspired by Swach Bharat Abhiyan), small school, residences can be built for refugees, currently the refugees are permitted temporary land where construction is not permitted.

PHRRP request Hon. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Hon. Indian Home minister Rajnath Singh to allot permanent refugee land for Pakistani Hindu refugees, local Mayor of Jodhpur has the authority to make temporary land into permanent and PHRRP request Jodhpur and Delhi Mayors to allot permanent land area to Pakistani Hindu refugees.

PHRRP director Rahul Chandra appreciated Vikram Parihar efforts as coordinator for PHRRP-Jodhpur relief program, Vikram Parihar, a dedicated volunteer associated with VHP Jodhpur was nominated official PHRRP coordinator at the joint meeting. His efforts were lauded by refugees, local municipal corporation leaders and nearby village leaders.

From the meeting following requirements were captured:

1. Blankets for 200 people . Cost = 200*8 = $1600
2. Light Lambs for refugees = 50
3. Two temporary sanitation toilets
4. Sewing Machine business model – proposed by Kavita T ji – Cost = $800 ( 4 sewing machines, water proof tent, table, chair and lambs)
5. First Aid Kits like Dettol, Bandage etc to camps
6. More water tanks – 2 no.
7. School for refugees – a local org. has come up to help them
