Subject: ISIS Flags In Kashmir
When the local Army Commander commented on the security implications of hoisting of ISIS flags in Kashmir, not many perhaps bothered much about that. And, the non-challant Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, busy in Islamising the State and deliberately encouraging destruction of vestiges of age-old Hindu culture and cIvilisation in the State, tried to belittle the warning by stating that this could be pranks of some “idiots”.
Fortunately, “The Statesman” of date (October 17) has warned against “Trivialising Peril” in its lead Editorial (copy attached). The salient aspects in it are:
Some 26 years ago Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference government in Srinagar and the Rajiv Gandhi Congress government in New Delhi chose to look the other way when men with guns began popping up in the Valley. Initially they pressed for a fundamental brand of Islam foreign to ‘ Kashmiriyat’, then a jihadi fervour was evident, and that developed into a flown- blown militant- propelled separatist campaign. Omar Abdullah could be going down the same path by writing off the appearance ~ on three occasions ~ of the black flags of ISIS ( or IS or ISIL) in Srinagar as the acts of some “ idiots”, and insisting that the brutal organisation wreaking havoc across a swathe of West Asia has no presence in Kashmir. This is a contention as superficial as the Prime Minister’s recent declaration that Indian Muslims were too patriotic to allow Al Qaida to spread its tentacles here.
There can be no forgetting the non- functioning of the local police when the cries for azadi were backed by militant/ terrorist forays. And it must be remembered that central forces ~ military or paramilitary ~ have to struggle to come to grips with an “ alien” condition. All available inputs point to ISIS actually being an umbrella organisation of militant outfits; there are several tanzims in Kashmir that would be keen to draw sustenance from that “ umbrella” after being subjected to much pressure from the security forces. Can the potential for trouble be ignored?
Friends, the Editorial rightly concludes: The challenge has been effectively articulated ~ can the political leadership meet it? Or will another Prime Minister look the other way while the embers get fanned?
