Dear Sewa Supporter,

Four days after the earthquake in Nepal, the death toll has risen to more than 3,800, and many of the worst hit villages are inaccessible due to landslides. Nepalese authorities have started airdropping packages of tarpaulins, dry food and medicine to mountain villages that cannot be reached by roads. Phone lines continue to be down, and electricity is out for most of the country. People still remain trapped in rubble in Kathmandu and Pokhara, while many remote villages are completely destroyed.

In the wake of this disaster, Sewa International immediately released $10,000 on Saturday to help with the relief efforts.  Sewa is working with organizations in Nepal to provide first aid, distribute safe drinking water bottles, food packets, and blankets.  Six volunteers from Sewa International in the US, are traveling to Nepal to provide voluntary services this week.

Sewa has also created an Emergency Hotline to help locate relatives in Nepal whose communication links are down and are not reachable through phones. For this service, call 708-872-7392.

To all our supporters who have already donated, we sincerely thank you for your generosity. Sewa has raised $100,000 in donations from over 700 donors in 72 hours!  If you want to donate, please respond today – your gift will immediately go towards providing desperately needed supplies such as water, blankets, and first aid kits.  100% of your donations will go directly to Nepal victims and are tax deductible.

Donate online at www.sewausa.org or call us at 708-USA-SEWA or email at info@sewausa.org. Donation checks can be made to  “Sewa International” and sent to: Sewa International, P O Box 820867, Houston, TX 77282-0867.

  Nepal Disaster Relief Appeal

Sewa Supporters,

Text Box: To see a Video of the devastation caused by earthquake click hereIn the worst disaster to hit Nepal in the last 100 years, an earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter scale has caused massive devastation in Kathmandu and the northwest region of Pokhara. The fury of nature in this Himalayan country has been so devastating and deadly, that the tremors flattened everything – revered ancient shrines, homes, apartment buildings, cars, and people. Preliminary estimate pegs the loss of life to be at 1000 at the moment. Fears are that the casualties may rise to 10,000 as rescue workers work their way through the debris. Triggered avalanches in the Himalayas point to casualties there.

In addition to the region encompassing Nepal, Northern districts of Bihar (Champaran region), Mithilanchal (districts Dharbhanga, Madhubani etc,), Patna district, Munger Division (south of Ganges), West Bengal, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Sikkim.

In this moment of unspoken tragedy and human suffering, Sewa International appeals to everyone to open your hearts and wallets to help us serve these people under distress.  The relief efforts will continue for weeks and months to come. Through its sister organization, Sewa International, Nepal, and its volunteers on ground, your contributions will reach the affected people directly to provide support.

Sewa has released $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) towards immediate relief. Donate generously atwww.sewausa.org or call us at 708-USA-SEWA or email at info@sewausa.org.
