A Brahmanbaria court has placed a local Awami League leader on a two-day remand in a case filed in connection with attack on Hindu community people in the district’s Nasirnagar upazila.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Shafiqul Islam passed the order on Tuesday when police produced Suruj Ali before the court seeking a seven-day remand prayer.
Suruj Ali, who was recently suspended from the president post of Chapartola Union Awami League, was arrested by the detectives on Monday.
On October 30, a group of religious zealots demolished numbers of Hindu houses and vandalized over 15 temples in Brahmanbaria’s Nasirnagar over a Facebook post where a Hindu man demean the Holy Kaaba.
