The Nag Panchami or festival of snakes is celebrated on the fifth day of the moonlit fortnight in the month of Shravan (July /August) according to the Hindu calendar. Nag Panchami is the day of snakes and the common ritual practiced by people include offering a treat of honey and milk to the snakes.
According to the Hindu Mythology snakes are considered to be quite dear to Lord Shiva, hence on the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami people worship and seek blessing at Shiva Temples.
