Hyderabad : Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi was in the city on Sunday as part of her Bharat Yatra.
At an event organised at Mata Amritanandamayi Devi Math in Mahendra Hills, as many as 1,000 students were awarded educational scholarships and 500 widows and destitutes were provided pensions. She held satsang, bhajans, meditation and other events at the programme.
Finance minister Etela Rajender attended the event in the morning and sought blessings from the spiritual guru.
Fondly called as Amma by her devotees, she has set out on this yatra to reach out to the poor and needy and spread the message of love and service. The Bharat Yatra began from north Kerala and has covered Mysore, Bengaluru before reaching Hyderabad. She would travel by road to Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and reach New Delhi on April 4.
The spiritual leader will be available for individual darshan to devotees on Monday also.She is traveling along with a group of 600 disciples, making impromptu halts on the way. At the end of the yatra, the spiritual leader would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
