Man arrested for posing as IPS officer

PUNE: The Thane rural police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly impersonating an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and cheating people in Thane, Pune and other places.Additional superintendent of police (Vasai) Sangramsinh Nishandar identified the suspect asHemant Dattatraya Patil (35) of Valiv village in Thane rural.

Nishandar said Patil attended public functions wearing the police uniform and, at one of these functions, was even felicitated by the Vasai mayor. was impersonating as an IPS officer for deceiving people. He used to wear the police uniform and used to attend public functions in Thane area. Patil was felicitated by Vasai mayor in one of the functions attended by him.

Investigations have revealed that Patil told people he was posted as an additional superintendent of police in Gondia and hung the uniform in his car while travelling to various places. He was arrested in Thane area following a tip off, Nishandar said.

The Valiv police have registered an impersonation case against Patil under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

“We suspect Patil of misusing the police uniform to deceive people in Thane, Pune and some other places.

We have appealed to the public to contact Valiv police station in Thane rural if they have complaints against Patil.”
