The attacker of the Hindu teacher of Madaripur was killed to hide facts, according to BNP.
“Whether Fahim was a militant or who his companions were would be divulged if he was interrogated. But he was killed before that,” said , BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi hours after Golam Faizullah Fahim, the alleged attacker of Madaripur teacher, was killed in a “shootout” with police in Sadar upazila early on Saturday.
“The information that could have been gleaned from his interrogation would have led to the actual perpetrators, but now it is not possible as Fahim has been murdered,” he told reporters at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
He also said that the possibility of the truth behind the attack on the Hindu teacher coming out has ended with Fahim’s death.
“The government killed him, which means they are covering it up. They are trying to suppress the truth,” he said.
Terming militancy and ruling Awami League as “twin”, the BNP leader said both liked bloodshed. For this reason, the government is not investigating the killings, rather they are harassing people, he added.
Regarding the countrywide special crackdown, Rizvi questioned why priests at Ramakrishna Mission and a Kushtia temple got death threat even after such police action.
Referring to his party chief Khaleda Zia’s recent statements blaming the government behind the targeted killings, he said, “Today’s incident proves that once again.”
Madaripur police reported the death of Golam Faizullah Fahim during a ‘shootout’ early on Saturday, hours after a court remanded him to police custody to facilitate interrogation.
Police said they took the suspect with them to raid a hideout of his accomplices near the district town, when a shootout erupted leaving the 18-year-old dead on the spot.
