Hindus are suggesting educational administrators to introduce yoga in all public and private schools of USA. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, stressed that incorporating yoga in the lives of the students would be a step in the positive direction.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that a nationwide survey by National Institutes of Health (NIH), nation’s medical research agency and component of US Department of Health, revealed that more Americans of all ages were rolling out their yoga mats in an effort to improve their health and approximately 21 million adults and 1.7 million children practiced yoga.
This NIH survey results released on February 10 mention of “significant increase in the use of yoga” across all age, racial, and ethnic groups. “The high rates of use may be partly due to a growing body of research showing that some mind and body practices can help manage pain and reduce stress”, survey results release added. Rajan Zed further said that yoga, although introduced and nourished by Hinduism, was a world heritage and liberation powerhouse to be utilized by all. According to Patanjali who codified it in Yoga Sutra, yoga was a methodical effort to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical.
Yoga, referred as “a living fossil”, was a mental and physical discipline, for everybody to share and benefit from, whose traces went back to around 2,000 BCE to Indus Valley civilization, Zed pointed out.”Yoga may have health benefits such as reducing stress and improving overall physical fitness, strength, and flexibility”, NIH notes. Yoga is the repository of something basic in the human soul and psyche, Rajan Zed adds.
