Sangli (Maharashtra) : In one of the verdicts passed by the Supreme Court related to noise pollution, it has ordered that no loudspeaker should be used between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. The order is, however, not implemented in case of hooters fitted on mosques and durgahs. At many of these places, the first ‘baang’ is given at 5.00 a.m./ 5.30 a.m. The noise created due to it is distressing for patients, small children, students, senior citizens etc. and adversely affects their mental health. Police are not taking any action; therefore, to implement the Supreme Court’s orders and stop noise pollution, hooters on mosques and durgahs should be permanently removed. A representation was given to the above effect by various pro-Hindu organizations including Hindu Janajagruti Samiti to Shri. Vijay Pawar, additional District Collector.
1. Pro-Hindu activists were called during the meeting of District Administration held to discuss matters related to noise pollution and traffic. The issue was, therefore, exposed to even Regional Traffic Police Officers and police administration.
2. On accepting the representation, Addl. District Collector Pawar said, “I will give orders to verify all orders related to noise pollution for taking immediate action.” (Orders which are known to even ordinary citizensand implemented by police during Ganesha Festival imposing restrictions on Ganesha Committees, need to verify them when action is required to be taken against mosques. Will it be wrong if people feel that police are being biased to Hindus ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
3. Shri. Anand Rajput of Shiv Sena said in this regard, “Police officers from Miraj city police station are also facing this problem. At many places in Miraj city, one can hear ‘baang’ at 5.00 a.m. but no action is being taken.”
4. Shri. Amol Patil, city-chief of Shiv Sena for Kupwad, Shri. Gajanan More, its dy. city-Chief, Shri. Sachin Pawar, Shri. Shrikrushna Mali of Shri Shiva-Pratishthan, BJP’s Shri. Shrikant Shinde, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Shri. Santosh Desai, Shri. Dattatreya Retharekar, Shri. Ajit Patil, Sou. Sulabha Tambade, Smt. Anjana Kolekar etc. were present on the occasion.
Demands made on this occasion
1. Noise pollution caused by hooters fitted on mosques and durgahs within concerned jurisdictions should be immediately stopped.
2. Cases should be filed against offenders involved in such crime and they should be punished.
A woman present while submission of representation said, “Sound of hooter in the area where we stay is so high that little children are affected. We have to close ears once ‘azan’ starts. Loudspeakers are used one after the other. We have been going through this problem for many years; so, immediate action should be taken now.”
