A Hindu Union Parishad (UP) member from Brahmanbaria’s Nasirnagar has received an anonymous death threat by post.
Bishnupodo Deb, a UP member from ward number four, also heads the local Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad.
A local postman delivered the mail to Bishnopodo’s residence at 9am on Thursday.
“Allahu Akbar. Prepare for your death while I prepare myself to be a martyr,” it read.
Bishnupodo said that he had no enemies and was clueless about the sender. One of his relatives said that the UP member would file a police complaint over the matter.
Nasirnagar police OC Md Abu Zafar said they were yet to receive any complaint from Bishnupodo.
In October last year, a mob attacked and vandalised 17 temples and 58 houses belonging to Hindus in Nasirnagar over a Facebook post defaming Islam allegedly posted from the account of an illiterate Hindu fisherman.
Nasirnagar police OC and the upazila nirbahi officer were subsequently transferred, while the ruling Awami League suspended three of its local leaders for their involvement in the incident.
So far over 100 suspects have been arrested in eight cases filed over the attacks in which more than a hundred people were injured.
