Upananda Brahmachari | New Delhi | Oct 22, 2016:: The prime Indian news agency PTI divulges that Ivanka Trump, daughter of Republican forerunner for the Us Presidential post, will celebrate the coming Diwali with Indian Americans in a temple of at Chantilly on Wednesday.
Yes, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s daughter will celebrate the Diwali festival at a Hindu temple in the crucial swing state of Virginia with the members of the Indian-American community.
Ivanka Trump will celebrate Diwali with Indian-Americans during her visit to the Rajdhani Temple at Chantilly on Wednesday, campaign officials and community leaders said.
This is the first time a family member of one of the two top presidential candidates is visiting a Hindu temple.
Last week, Trump attended a charity event organised by Republican Hindu Council to raise funds for Kashmiri Pandits and Hindu victims of terrorism in Bangladesh. This was also the first time a presidential candidate attended an Indian- American event. It was attended by more than 5,000 people.
The visit of Ivanka, 34, a successful businesswoman and a key figure of the Trump campaign, to the Rajdhani Temple would “go a long way in breaking the stereotype,” that the campaign “represents only angry white voters,” said Rajesh Gooty, an Indian-American community leader in Virginia.
“This is a big positive for the community,” he told PTI.
Inaugurated in 2000, the Rajdhani Temple is the oldest temple in Loudon County of Virginia, which has experienced the fastest growth of Indian-Americans in the past decade.
In addition to recognising the significant role the Indian-American community plays in the US and embracing its cultural and religious diversity, the Trump Campaign’s move to send Ivanka to a Hindu temple is seen as an effort to woo this ethnic community in the November 8 presidential election.
The results of the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections have shown that whoever wins Loudon County wins Virginia. The county in the past 16 years has seen significant growth of the Indian-American community, mainly on account of the emergence of an IT corridor near the Dulles Airport.
There were 1,200 Indian-Americans in 2000, which increased to 12,000 in 2010. The number is estimated to have jumped to 30,000 in 2016. The neighboring Fairfax County too has an estimated 20,000 strong Indian-American community members.
Indian-Americans have traditionally supported Democratic Party. But the Trump Campaign, which had withdrawn from the state several weeks ago, feel its latest move would help them penetrate the traditional vote bank of the Democratic party.
The trends of wooing the Hindu and Sikh community (as both celebrate Diwali as their prime festival) through participating Diwali or praising Indian PM Modi as a champion of world peace by crashing terror in one hand and on the other hand PM Modi as the new leader for the economic growth, are obviously show an important perspective for the winning threads for US election engineering.
The United States Department of State’s International Religious Freedom Report 2004 found some 1.5 million adherents of Hinduism, corresponding to 0.5% of the total population. The Hindu population of USA is the world’s eighth-largest; 10% of Asian Americans are followers of the Hindu faith. At present, Hindus number reach 2.24 million in the US.
The proportion of Hindus in the US population rose from 0.4 percent in 2007 to 0.7 percent last year, according to the Pew Research Center’s “Religious Landscape Study” published in May 2015. According to that report, Hindus are most educated of any religious traditions. According to Pew’s data, “77 % of Hindus are college graduates.” Furthermore, 36 percent Hindus reported their annual family income exceeds $100,000, compared with 19 percent of the public overall. As a matter of fact, all political wings, whether it is Democrats or Republican, have their eyes to capture the influential Hindu voters to garner a win in the presidential election in US.
The Republicans have given most importance this year for the potency of Hindu voting in the Presidential election in United States. Republican candidate Donald Trump earnestly tried to get the blessing of the strong Hindu vote bank in US to fight against Jihadi Terrorism, Cultural crisis in the civilization and the huge Economic discrimination in the society.
Indian-Americans of Hindu-Sikh roots (irrespective of all organisational segmentations) must vote for Donald Trump to boost up a new Indo-American horizon for world peace and prosperity.
