OSSINING, N.Y. — The Ossining Police Department received a visit from the Hindu Service Society on Saturday. The society asked the department to join it for a celebration of their traditional holiday known as Raksha Bandhan.
As part of their tradition, the children tie a string bracelet around the wrist of the protector of the community as a sign of respect and to build a sense of community.
A police spokesperson said the department was lucky to have the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps along with for the visit. “They do a heck of a job protecting the community,” the spokesperson said. “We had a great time meeting these kids and we’re proud to be the protectors of our community!”
