Hindu Mohajote pushes for 3-day Durga Puja holiday

bang-MMAP-mdLeaders of Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote (BJHM) on Friday renewed their demand for a three-day government holiday during Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.

“We get a one-day leave on Dashami, the last day of the festival, though the whole Durga Puja is a five-day long festival. We want the government to grant us a three-day vacation to celebrate the biggest festival properly,” said Mohajote president Manoj Kumar Mondol.

He was speaking at a sit-in programme organised by BJHM in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

Mohajote leaders also demanded 60 reserved seats in parliament for minority communities, saying, “There are fewer representatives of the minority communities in parliament to talk about their rights. So, 60 seats should be reserved in the House to protect rights of the minority communities.”

BJHM secretary general Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, its spokesperson Palash Kanti De, joint- secretary general Manik Chandra Sarker and organising secretary Bipul Biswas, among others, spoke at the sit-in programme.
