It will be conducting its 800th free medical camp in Kancheepuram district next week

The Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram, will be crossing another milestone next weekend.

Known for the free health care it offers the poor and needy without compromising on quality, the hospital will be conducting its 800 free medical camp at Anushtana Kulam, Kancheepuram, on July 24.

The camp will be part of the millennial birth anniversary celebrations of Ramanuja, a Hindu theologian, philosopher and one of the most important exponents of the Sri Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism.

D. K. Hari, a board member of Hindu Mission Hospital, says, “The free weekly rural health check-up, named Narayana Seva, is conducted on Sundays, at localities in and around Tambaram, including Manimangalam, Mannivakkam and Mudichur.”

A multi-disciplinary team of doctors from the hospital conduct the camps. Prior to a camp, the paramedical staff conduct a door-to-door campaign announcing the camp and also explaining the various treatments that would be offered.

Patients who require follow-up treatment are referred to the hospital. Similarly, those requiring surgical intervention are transported to the hospital.

The hospital conducts free surgeries, provides free food during hospitalisation and transports the patients back to their homes, for free, post complete recovery.

Under the ‘Bhaktha Jana Seva’, free medicines are distributed to patients in villages around Tambaram.

“The response to these camps is encouraging. More than 10,000 people benefit from them every year. The check-ups have been successfully going on for over 15 years. As part of the celebrations, camps will also be conducted in Poonamallee, Sriperumbudur and Thirupukuzhi,” he says.

In addition to this, the hospital conducts a free cataract eye camp every week and audiogram, provides school children with speech therapy. Distribution of artificial limbs is another service provided by the hospital.
