You could be covered in colourful paint this afternoon in Aylesbury.
The Hindu Holi festival is being celebrated at Bucks County Museum, with an event open to all to enjoy Spring.
The event has been put together by the Aylesbury Hindu Temple Trust.
They said:
One of our charity’s objectives includes sharing knowledge about Hindu culture, while promoting British values to generate mutual understanding and respect within our society. We endeavor to celebrate festivals such as Spring Festival of Colours (also known as “Holi”) and other Hindu festivals, together with the wider local community.
Spring Festival of Colours is considered to be one of the most revered and celebrated festivals of India.
It is also called as the “festival of love” as on this day people, regardless of age or social status, join in the celebrations and unite together forgetting all resentments and any ill feeling towards each other.
Rajeev Bakshi is one of the organisers:
“The festival is a celebration of the arrival of spring, love, colour and a festive day to meet friends and family, etc.
“It also signifies the victory of good over evil and is also thanksgiving for a good harvest.”
The day’s event include lots of fun and entertainment such as – playing with dry powdered colours (also known as “Gulal”), Indian Street food stalls and other stalls, music and dance, children’s craft activities, raffle draw and more.
The AHTT are keen to make the day a memorable one for the residents of Aylesbury and surrounding areas and believe this will promote diversity and cohesion.
This Spring Festival of Colours event will be visited by several dignitaries including the Hon Member of Parliament of Aylesbury Mr. Lidington, Mayor of Aylesbury Twon Council Hon Cllr Mark Willis and other Councillors.
