Local Hindu community shows support for the family of Sarah Beckett, the West Shore RCMP officer killed in a crash in Langford nearly three weeks ago
Nearly three weeks after Westshore RCMP Constable Sarah Beckett was killed in a crash in Langford, members of the local Hindu community have rallied to support her family, including the two young sons she left behind.
Songs, chanting and a minute of silent prayer greeted officers as they arrived at the Victoria Hindu Temple in Saanichton this weekend.
The members were there celebrating the life of Constable Beckett and extending their support to her family.
“Our community wants to convey our sincere condolences to the Beckett family and we want to show our compassion and support with the small donation that is being made to the Beckett Family trust,” said Suresh Basrur from the Victoria Hindu Temple.
“When the community comes together like this in the weeks after a tragedy to show you their compassion, and show you the love that they have it reminds you of why you do the job,” said Central Saanich Police Chief Les Sylven.
Two cheques were presented Saturday, one from the temple’s members, and one from the temple itself.
In total, $1000 was donated to the Beckett Family Trust.
