HC told Patna would be cleaned for Chhath

PATNA: The executive officers of all the four circles of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday submitted to the Patna high court separate affidavits, committing that the city would be cleaned before the Chhath festivities.While asking the civic body to clean the city before November 11, the court also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the PMC and help it keep their surroundings clean.

Chhat PujaPMC’s New Capital, Bankipore, Kankarbagh and Patna City circles’ executive officers Shashank Shekhar, Shailesh Kumar, Anil Kumar and Narendra Nath respectively submitted their “assurance affidavits”, committing that they would ensure the town as well as the Ganga ghats were cleaned for Chhatth festival.

Their affidavits also said they would make proper arrangements for Eid-ul-Zuha as well. The members of the bar also showed pictures of garbage accumulated near a park at Sri Krishna Nagar to which the division bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain reiterated its appeal to civilians. The judges said even general public is responsible for the garbage accumulation. The court also asked the citizens to keep the Durga Puja pandals clean.

The case will be taken up for fresh hearing on November 11, but the court said if it is brought to its notice that its directives were not being complied with during the period till November 11, the matter could be taken up for hearing earlier too.
