Ensure security for Comilla Hindus

comilla-districtThe High Court yesterday directed the local administration to immediately take steps to ensure safety and security of religious minority people and their properties in Comilla.
The deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Comilla have also been ordered to submit a report before the HC after complying with the directive on June 17, Deputy Attorney General Biswojit Roy told The Daily Star.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain came up with the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Centre for Human Rights and Development on May 12 following attacks on Hindus in Homna in April.
BCHRD, in its petition, stated that thousands of perpetrators have attacked 35 Hindu families at Baksitarampur in Homna and vandalised and looted their houses and temples on April 27, creating a rumor that two Hindu boys uploaded defamatory posts in their Facebook pages against Islam the previous day.
The local administration has not taken any effective action against the perpetrators, the petition said.
