Ekal – Save for a Change

Ekal New England youth leaders are gathering spare change from family and friends to help bring education to Ekal villages. “At Ekal every penny counts”, says seven year old Soham Chauhan Sudhakaran who has been reaching out to his family and friends to gather spare change. 10 year old Sriganesh Srinivasan went to the town office in Billerica and got permission to put up a table and change collection box at the local farmer’s market.
The children plan to get together on September 12th and have a “counting the change” party. “Save for a change has been an exciting program to build awareness for Ekal. Today, on Janmashtami day, a few people holding Bhajans at their homes are having Ekal change box for collection of donations” says Parveen Minocha, secretary, Ekal NE. “The idea has really caught on amongst the children and we are looking forward to see what we get on Sep 12” says Anu Upneja, coordinator of the Ekal Youth Leaders group.
