DC Metro area chapter of SEWA international along with HSS Balgokulams(www.hssus.org) in DC metro area conducted its first annual food drive on the auspicious occasion of Diwali to serve the needy. DC Central Kitchen which serves 4500 meals everyday and located at the heart of Washington DC was identified as an ideal location for the cause.

SEWA Karyakartas created flyers and distributed them through email netwrorks to family and friends. We got an overwhelming response from people in metro DC area.We collected about 1000 pound rice and about 200 pounds of other non perishable food items at designated collection centers in Herndon,Sterling and Faifax area.SEWA Karyakartas visited DC Central Kitchen on 13th December’2010 and donated collected items.
Robert Egger, founder and Director of DC Central kitchen lauded SEWA International for contributing to the social cause and wanted more interfaith interactions and future partnerships calling this food drive as a strong start.
