Detroit Donors Donate Two Tailoring Training Centers in Ekal Villages

Dr. Yashpal Lakra and his wife Dr. Chander Lakra made a generous donation of $30,000 to support a Tailoring Training Center in Malda, West Bengal. “Women empowerment is key to bring about holistic development of the villages. Providing tailoring training has a huge impact on the lives of women as it brings monthly incomes ranging anywhere from Rs 2-5000” said Dr. Yashpal Lakra.
Another Detroit donor, Mr. Harish Verma made a donation of $30,000 in memory of his beloved wife, the late Monica Verma (November, 1943- September 2016). “This is a tribute to our mother’s dedication to providing equal opportunities for women in education” said Sonia and Nikhil Verma. This tailoring center has already been opened in Gajraula, UP. Detroit chapter President Jitendra Patel, honored both donors at the Ekal Sur Ekal Taal event in Detroit and thanked them for their generous donation.
Last year Ekal USA donors, Vandana and Vivek Sharma from New England and Arun Gupta from Ohio also donated to support Tailoring Centers in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Ekal’s skill training centers are a big boon for the villagers. Ekal hopes to open 20 tailoring training centers in different states in 2017.
