Penang Hindu Association (PHA), in its usual routine survey, discovered the sales of Beers in the foyers of cinema theaters in Penang . This encourages cinema goers of all ages whether minor or otherwise to consume liquor in Cinemas. Attached is a receipt indicating the price of RM 14.90 and GST of 6% (RM 0.84) for the sales of Carlsberg Beer.
PHA have written official compliant to the Government Authorities and the relevant Enforcement Departments, in particular the Royal Customs Department, under the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, State Government and the Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang to take action against those responsible for the sales of beer in cinema theaters.
PHA also urges the Enforcement Departments to immediately inspect all the theaters to investigate if alcohol is sold in the Cinema Premises, in particular at the foyers and if so to take appropriate action immediately against them including canceling their licenses.
Cinema Theaters are frequented by cinema goers of all ages including of course teenagers and young children. Therefore under aged children will be tempted to consume beer especially In the hidden confinements of cinema theater, probably unseen by their parents or guardians.
Similar, to no smoking signs, a separate sign board to indicate no consumption of alcohol should be displayed clearly and enforced continuously in the cinema complex premises.
We also hope that the licensing departments will also take appropriate action against the those not adhering to the regulations or laws and strictly enforce the legal requirements
