Chennai: Contending that the Islamic State (ISIS) is emerging as a major threat to India, Hindu Munnani founder-convener Ramagopalan has urged the Centre and state government to act fast and impose a total ban on the ISIS in the interest of national security.
Claiming that Tamil Nadu has become a veritable source for providing manpower and a training ground for ISIS, he alleged that the formation of “sleeper cells” throughout the nation did not augur well for the security of India.
“The nation’s internal security is under threat and those supporting ISIS are getting emboldened due to lack of stringent measures,” Ramagopalan said. In the coastal Ramanathapuram district for instance, about 40 youth sporting black T-shirts with ISIS emblem posed for a group photo endorsing their support for ISIS. Though they were arrested, they later came out on bail as there was no ban on ISIS, pointed out Ramagopalan calling for a total ban on the outfit.
