UNITED STATES, May 4, 2020 (Convergence on Campus): On Saturday May 23 & Sunday May 24th 2020 we celebrate a historic event: The launch of the North American Hindu Chaplains Association (NAHCA) at a virtual Hindu Chaplaincy conference. Originally set to be hosted at Yale University, the conference has shifted online due to COVID-19. This conference is geared to chaplaincy professionals of all faith traditions and offers a wonderful opportunity to those outside the field who are interested in learning about chaplaincy (spiritual care) through the lens of Hinduism. At present Hindu chaplaincy is a nascent field, mostly situated in Higher Education and Healthcare.
The conference organizers hope that the conference and launch of NAHCA will heighten the visibility and understanding of this profession and even offer guidance in how chaplaincy practices can be adapted to benefit Temple communities. The conference’s major support is through Convergence [https://convergenceoncampus.org/], an organization with the stated mission of “Enhancing institutional climates for religious, secular, and spiritual identities through policy and practice.” There is a nominal registration fee and more details about the conference including the program may be found at the conference web page at “source” above.
