The town, which witnessed a riot a few months ago, has a large population of Muslims and was listed as a sensitive place. Assessing the situation, a total of 450 personnel from the district police, Tamil Nadu special Police and volunteers from the Home Guard was deployed in the town.

Superintendent of Police P K Senthil Kumar camped in Ambur and supervised the security arrangements.

The procession of idols organised by the Hindu Munnani began around 11 am at Ponniamman Koil at A Kaspa. It reached the immersion point, Annaimaduku check-dam, around 6.30 pm.

Except for a tussle between two groups of youth from different areas over the procession which created tense moments at Indira Nagar, the rally was peaceful.
