Minister (State) for Environment Shri. Pravin Pote-Patil (On right) being apprised about HJS by Shri. Sunil Ghanavat and Shri. Shrikant Pisolkar

Nagpur (Maharashtra) : BJP leader and Environment Minister (State) Shri. Pravin Pote-Patil gave assurance to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s (HJS) delegation that all unauthorized slaughter-houses in the State would be closed down in 1-1/2 years. Shri. Sunil Ghanavat, State Convener and Shri. Shrikant Pisolkar, the District Coordinator of HJS for Vidarbha met the Minister and submitted a memorandum to him demanding that all unauthorized slaughter-houses in the State should be shut down; while also giving him copies of all information collected under RTI, orders issued by Pollution Control Board and newspaper clippings on the subject.

 1. There are more than 35 slaughter-houses in Amaravati zone and most of them flout rules and regulations stipulated by Pollution Control Board; thus causing large scale pollution in the region and harming environment. Despite Pollution Control Board’s order of closure of such slaughter-houses, they have not yet been closed down.

 2. Even other slaughter-houses of the state don’t fare any better, cattle are not only slaughtered but also transported in illegal manner.

 3. On the day of Ekadashi, several cows were slaughtered and carcass thrown on road-sides in Malegaon. On the day of Ekadashi, there was no water supply as cows’ blood was mixed in water and many Hindus had to remain without water on the day of Ekadashi.

 4. Religious fanatics are purposely doing such things to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus and to provoke them. Such incidents are happening all over the State and stringent action needs to be taken against the concerned.

The Minister took a serious note of information given by HJS and assured to look into the matter.
