Women and men of all ages came together at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Temple in Ilford to practice yoga as part of Yog Mahotsav.
More than 150 people – of all faiths – performed various yoga poses, jogging, singing exercises and laughter to mark the world event.
The Cleveland Road temple joined others across more than 70 different countries.
Mr Karam Kapur, 74, of Snaresbrook, attended the event.
He said: “I thought it was very well done.
“A lot of people came at very short notice.
“People were doing yoga in America, Australia and Canada, as well as many places in England.”
The 45-minute mixed yoga session was followed by tea and biscuits last Saturday (22).
Mr Kapur also added he was “surprised” so many people came.
“It was a wonderful occasion for people to join,” he said.
