Functionaries of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had accused Faridi (30), a resident of Haldaur’s Kheda colony, of making “vulgar” statements about Hindu deities. Local VHP leader Navin Rastogi said, “Our workers reached Haldaur police station and filed a case against Faridi. He made vulgar comments about our gods and goddesses. We had warned the police that if no action was taken against him, we would launch a protest to demand his arrest.”

Acting on the VHP’s complaint, the police on Monday filed a case against Faridi. Surendra Singh, station officer of Haldaur police station, said, “The man in question, Faridi, is a member of Owaisi’s party. We have taken this matter seriously and filed a case against him. We will soon arrest him and have him in custody.”
