The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has issued a stern warning against an OTT platform stating that it should remove content that show the Hindu religion in a bad light.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded an OTT platform to stop releasing shows that have ‘anti-Hindu’ content. Earlier, the VHP had issued statement warning filmmakers and OTT platforms in general. Now, a letter has been sent to a particular OTT platform warning them of a legal battle and street agitations.
In the letter, the VHP cited 5 instances that have hurt religious sentiments where Hinduism is allegedly portrayed in a derogatory manner. Shows like Leila, Ghoul, Sacred Games and Krishna & His Leela have been named by the Sangh affiliate along with the names of the producers and directors.
VHP Spokesperson Shriraj Nair said that if this kind of content continues to stream then the OTT platform will face legal action, further stating that “we will also be forced to take to the streets for peaceful agitations demanding a ban on your platform.”
The letter further added a history of agitations against the OTT platform and mentioned, “We have been associated with many large scale movements for the last 5 decades for the Hindu cause.” Adding, that the content in these shows is spreading misinformation about the Hindu way of worship and rituals and showing glorious saints in a bad light, as per a News18 report.
The letter also read, “Attempts are being made to create humour through outrageous methods and depictions involving our Gods as well as other historic personalities, thereby purposely undermining and diminishing their image and importance in society. Our Gods are in this manner, being made an object of ridicule.” Nair added that because of these shows there is “pain, agony and anger” against certain “irresponsible web series.”
Earlier, on June 29, THe VHP had issued a warning to filmmakers and all OTT services to not stream shows or movies that show the Hindu religion in a ‘disparaging manner.’ However, at that time it was just a generic warning. Now, the VHP has specifically named the OTT platform to take action.
