Lucknow, Jan 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogi Adityanath on Monday raised the issue of alleged exodus of Hindus from Kairana while addressing a rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityanath, who is known for making inflammatory remarks against Muslims, said what happened to Hindus in Kashmir in 1990s is happening again in western Uttar Pradesh.

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017, firebrand BJP leader Yogi Adityanath likened the alleged exodus of Hindus from Kairana with the forced migration of the community in Kashmir during 1990s. “When I look at western UP, I have regret. On January 19, 1990, Hindus had to migrate collectively from Kashmir. A massacre took place, the honour of mothers and sisters were openly trampled upon. If we have seen a sight similar to this anywhere, it was either in Bengal or western UP. Kairana and Kandhla are examples,” said Yogi Adityanath at a rally in Sahibabad.

Yogi Adityanath said the migration of Hindus from Kairana must become a poll issue, reported the Indian Express. In a veiled support for violence against Muslims, the BJP MP reportedly said, “I find western UP unsafe. We do not face a threat in eastern UP because there we use the language that people understand and set them straight.” (ALSO

“Is Kairana not an issue? Is Kashmir not an issue? If this country’s majority, Hindus, are tortured, is it not an issue? But if a thorn pricks the foot of someone from the minority community, it becomes an issue. This politics is strange,” Yogi Adityanath said. “BJP is committed not to let this happen anymore. We have lost Kashmir Valley, but we cannot let western Uttar Pradesh to become second Kashmir,” he said urging the Hindu voters to support the BJP.

In June last year, Kairana’s BJP MP Hukum Singh claimed that 346 Hindu families had fled due to the building communal tensions. The seven-phase assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are commencing on February 11 and would conclude on March 8. The results will be declared on March 11.
