Meerut/Bijnor: To mark the Hindu New Year and the birthday of its founder KB Hedgewar, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took out marches across several parts of Uttar Pradesh. RSS leaders called on Hindus to “forget distinctions of caste and unite”. A leader in Bijnor even said that “everyone except Muslims, Christians and Jews” was Hindu.
Shivam Gupta, an RSS worker, said, “In Meerut city alone, we carried out marches in 15 different places. Scores of swayamsevaks participated in the marches. According to the Hindu calendar, the New Year started on April 8. That was also the first Navratra. April 1 was the birth anniversary of RSS founder KB Hedgewar. We decided to mark both occasions with a march on Sunday.”
Several marches were held in Bijnor district in areas such as Bijnor city, Haldaur, Chandpur and Nangalsoti. Addressing close to 2,000 workers, RSS leader Padam Singh said, “This year, we will celebrate the birth anniversaries of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Balasaheb Deoras and BR Ambedkar. Our aim is to bind Hindu society together. Everyone except Muslims, Christians and Jews are Hindus. The entire world is looking at Hindutva and India. That is why we should behave in a way that enables us to show the way to the rest of the world. We should spread the good things about the Hindu faith to different parts of the world. Hinduism believes that the world is one family.”
