Bajrang Dal protests against hate message on WhatsApp

Bajarang-Dal-LogoMeerut: A Shamli resident’s alleged post on a WhatsApp group against district convenor of Bajrang Dal Vivek Premi stirred up a hornet’s nest with the latter’s supporters converging at the police station on Monday. At their insistence, an FIR was lodged against the Shamli resident.
In his message posted on Sunday, the person had allegedly said Premi should be publicly hanged to death from a crane at Shiv Chowk in Muzaffarnagar. It was liked by a member of his group. The message went viral and annoyed members of the saffron outfit.

On Monday, Akhil Bhartiya Maidh Kshtriya Swarnkar Samaj (ABMKSS) met district magistrate Sujeet Kumar and demanded that strict action be taken against those who have a radical mindset like terror outfits Islamic State and Taliban.

A large number of ABMKSS members and Bajrang Dal supporters also reached the police station and lodged a complaint, demanding action against the person who posted the hate message and the person who “liked” that. They also provided those numbers to the police through which the messages were posted.

Circle officer, Shamli Kotwali police station, Nishank Sharma said on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged under section 295(a) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief) and section 506 (Threatening any person with injury). The matter was being investigated. “Though we have lodged an FIR against two unknown persons, the mobile numbers have been mentioned in the FIR. We are going to get the IDs on which these numbers were issued as the names of the culprits could be included in the FIR,” the CO said.

Earlier, Premi had been booked under National Security Act (NSA) in a case relating to beating up of a Muslim man after accusing him cow slaughter. The action was filmed on mobiles and the images went viral. Premi was sent to jail. Later, charges under NSA were also included in the FIR lodged against him. These were removed after the Centre’s intervention. After staying in jail for a couple of months, he was released on bail.
