A crude bomb was reportedly thrown at a seva kendra run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the house of a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) worker on Wednesday in Kannur, Kerala, a day after an RSS worker was hacked to death by unidentified men nearby.

The local police have registered an FIR against unidentified men for the bomb attack in the Thalassery region in Kannur. The bomb squad was also called in to examine the bomb, reports NDTV. No casualty was reported.

“Only a window pane was damaged. No one was injured,” police sources told the Press Trust of India about the attack on Jaganatha Mandiram Seva Kendra in Thalassery.

Another bomb was hurled at the house of one man identified as Subramaniam, a member of the BJP.

On Tuesday, an RSS worker named Sujith, 27, was slashed to death in front of his parents near Pappinisseri in the Kannur district, reported the PTI. The BJP and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) — CPI(M) — blamed each other for the murder since it was reported.

The BJP accused CPI(M) members of attacking Sujith while the latter defended itself saying the attack was not perpetrated by them, but was in retaliation to Sujith insulting a local girl.

The police have taken 10 CPI(M) members into custody for questioning, reported the PTI. The police also said the murderer has been identified and an arrest will be made soon.

Violent incidents have reportedly been on the rise in the state as it prepares to go to polls this year.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has been repeatedly asked to step down by the BJP and the Congress as his ministers and he are named in several controversies, including the solar scam and the bar bribery case.
