Dear Friends,
Subject: Dilemma Before Educated Indian Hindus
We are with you today with yet another masterpiece from Maria Wirth, a favourite of ours from Germany and a scholar in her own right, deeply versed in Hindu culture and civilisation.
The question that puzzles her, “Why do so many educated Indians become agitated when India is referred to as Hindu country?” They also feel shy to acknowledge the Hindu roots of India.
As far as we see, these so-called educated Indians are left-oriented intellectuals, whose minds suffer from paralytic attack of ill-perceived Marxism. As Maria puts in this context, “Many Westerns know the value of Hindu culture and surreptitiously appropriate insights from the vast Indian knowledge system, drop the original Hindu source and present it as their own or make it look as if these insights had already been known in the West”.
Maria quotes Dalai Lama who had been deeply impressed by the richness Indian thought. So, he said, “India has great potential to help the world. Slightly widening the field, Maria, you have with you Arnold Toynbee, the greatest historian of the last century, who had said, “It is already becoming clear that a chapter, which had a Western beginning will have an Indian ending if it is not to end in self-destruction of the human race…At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only of salvation of mankind is the Indian way—Emperor Asoka’s, and Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of non-violence and Sri Ramakrishna’s testimony to the harmony of religions. Here we have an attitude and spirit than can make it possible for the human race to grow together into a single family—and, in the Atomic age, that is the. only alternative to destroying ourselves.”
So, sooner the educated Hindu Indians get over their palpable ignorance, politely put as their dilemma, the better for the country and better for them also.
