Karnataka Simmers with Hindu Protest Over Tipu Sultan Row, Girish Karnad Offers Apology. VHP – Bajrang Dal call Karnataka Bandh on Nov 13 over state indulgence in the killing of a Hindu Leader. BJP is to support the Bandh Call.
Anil Ponnuswamy | HENB | Bengaluru 11, 2015:: Amidst a severe protest from the right wing VHP and Bajrang Dal for his effort for glorifying Tipu Sultan, Girish Karnad at last compelled to bite the dust and offered his apology to the protesting Hindus.
The culpable Congress Government in Karnataka knew that its decision to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birthday would have its detractors, but perhaps it is getting more criticism than it bargained for. To garner the supports to the State end, the Siddaramaiah Govt in Karnataka pushed the eminent playwright Girish Karnad in the scene.
Protests continued in Bengaluru and Mangaluru over the issue – and the main target was Jnanpith awardee, Girish Karnad.
Mr Karnad’s admiration of Tipu Sultan – and his suggestion that Bengaluru’s airport be named after Tipu instead of city founder Kempe Gowda – upset right-wing groups. The noted playwright later south to end the controversy, saying, “”If anybody has been hurt by my remarks, I apologise… what will I gain by doing it (by giving such comments).”

Basavaraj, state organisation secretary of the Vishva Hindu Parishad or VHP was part of a protest at the Town Hall. “Kempegowda is the nadaprabhu (ruler of the land) of Karnataka. He has insulted our nadaprabhu. We are condemning Girish Karnad. Now he is not a writer, he is only Siddaramaiah’s man.”
Anger also flared over the death of a VHP leader D S Kutappa (VHP Organising Secretary of Kodagu) during a bandh on the issue called by the BJP at Madikeri town in Kodagu district on Tuesday. The police say he fell accidentally to his death while running from a lathi charge.

R Ashok, BJP leader and former home minister told HENB, “100 per cent it is a murder. They made this murder. It is purely communal clashes – the failure of the government, no security arrangements no intelligence. It is a pre-planned murder. BJP is demanding a CBI enquiry or the judicial enquiry.”
While asking whether BJP will support the VHP- Bagrangdal Bandh on 13 Nov in protest of Kutappa Murder, R Ashok told, ‘BJP will certainly not oppose the Bandh as this is related to restore state’s law and order position and against the communal activity of Congress Govt. in Karnataka’.

But Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ruled out such a probe. He said, “There is no need for a judicial inquiry. I have already ordered inquiry into the incident by regional commissioner of Mysore region. Already there is a government order to give Rs. 5 lakh for any person who dies in a communal clash. Tipu Sultan is a patriot, freedom fighter – and he is most secular man. That is why I have celebrated.”
In a protest VHP and Bajrang Dal called a Mangaluru, Udupi and Kodagu Bandh on Nov 13th to protest against the atrocities on Hindus by the Congress run Karnataka State Govt. and trying to spread this bandh statewide.

The communal Congress Govt in Karnataka is celebrating fanatic Tipu Sultan Jayanti for fattening its Muslim vote bank. Tipu was a fundamentalist Islamic ruler of 18th Century (1750-1799) of Mysore who hanged 700 Melkote Iyengars (Hindus) in a single day. Tipus serial atrocities on Hindus were endless.
