SOUTH AFRICA, October 21, 2015 (News 24): The Midlands Hindu Society in Pietermaritzburg recently celebrated 20 years of unity with members from various organizations in the Midlands region. In early 1995 the first seeds were sown of creating a united organization for all Hindus in the Midlands region including Pietermaritzburg, Howick, Greytown, Richmond and surrounding areas. In September that year the first meeting was held and various officials elected to the committee. The Midlands Hindu Society consists of more than 30 affiliated Hindu organizations from the midlands region.

The momentum has been sustained over the last 20 years. The society has strengthened the bond among Hindus and serves as a strong voice on several issues where Hindu input is required. Midlands Hindu Society has worked and continues to work closely with the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, the Indian Consulate Durban, the Msunduzi Municipality, the South African Police Service, the Departments of Arts, Culture and Education, both nationally and provincially. Midlands Hindu Society has affiliate organizations from the Hindi, Tamil, Telegu and Gujerati communities as it views the joining of hands with all organizations in the best interest of promoting and propagating Hindu Dharma.
