Various Hindu organisations have installed 1,050 Vinayaka idols in Dindigul and 607 idols in Theni district. Sufficient force has been deployed to ensure round-the-clock security to these idols, according to the police.
While the Hindu Makkal Katchi installed 300 idols, Hindu Munnani commissioned 700 idols and other organisations like VHP and Hindu Dharma Sena installed rest of the idols in Dindigul district.
The organisations have also planned to take out ‘Visarjana yatra’ in Dindigul, Vedasandur, Oddanchatram, Palani, Kodaikanal, Nilakottai and Athoor blocks between September 19 and 22.
Additional force was deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Night surveillance would be intensified at Begampur, Paraipatti, Mettupatti, Sellandi Amman Temple Road and certain pockets of Palani town. Mobile units would monitor these areas round-the-clock, said the police officials.
Petrol bunk sales staff were advised not to sell petrol in bottles and fill the tanks in vehicles only.
HC guidelines
The district police have advised organisers to follow 22 guidelines of the High Court in connection with idol procession.
All idols processions should be completed before sunset. No weapons should be carried in the procession. Processions should be taken out through prescribed routes only. Entire procession will be videographed from high places. Stern action will be taken against persons violating these guidelines. Cone speakers were strictly banned. Slogans hurting sentiments of any religion should not be raised before any religious centres. It also suggested that organisers could play devotional songs instead of beating percussion instruments. After completion of procession, the participants should disperse calmly.
