Resolving to unleash a “tsunami” of services, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today said lakhs of people will be brought within the ambit of its various social serviceorganisations over the next five years without exercising “untouchability”.

“It is one thing to serve in the tsunami but India needs a tsunami of services, we have to work like that,” RSS jointgeneral secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said on the concluding day of a three-day conclave organised by Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, an umbrella organisation that supports nearly 700 organisations involved in social work.

Hosabale said there should be no “untouchability” in service and that no section of the society be left weak.

Addressing representatives of nearly 800 organisations involved in social work at a gathering that happens once every five years, Hosabale stressed on the need to focus on increasing the number of people covered, speed, dimension of servicesoffered, besides their quality and impact on the society.

Yesterday, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, too, had spoken about expanding the sphere of work and told the social service organisations present that though much progress had been made it was still minuscule considering the vast society that needed to be covered. He had called for doubling the efforts to cover more people.

Likening a weak section in the society to a feeble part of the body, Hosabale said, if left untreated, it affects the whole body.

He said like the clean Ganga mission rivers and streams in other areas should be taken up for purification.

The senior RSS functionary said that there was enthusiasm among the people, particularly youth from IITs and IIMs, about doing something for the nation.

RSS leader Suhas Hiremath, who is also the Akhil Bhartiya Sewa Pramukh of the organisation, lauded the efforts of the volunteers.

Nearly 3050 volunteers of various RSS-backed social service organisations are participating in the meet attended among others by several senior Sangh functionaries including general secretary Suresh Soni, Krishna Gopal and Indresh Kumar.
