Isma up in arms over Hindu temple in Klang

NGO claims Klang’s reputation as a royal town and Malaysia’s image as an Islamic country will be tarnished if the temple is a tourist attraction.

Barathidasan_isma__300KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Progressive Association (Mipas) secretary-general S Barathidasan plans to lodge a police report against Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) for reviving a video campaign in the social media against the Sri Sundararaja Perumal temple in Klang.

The video, first produced in 2013, questions the need for the Hindu temple – the Thirupathi of Southeast Asia — which was renovated recently at some RM10 million and would be opening soon.

“Isma should be probed for sedition and provoking anger among Hindus,” said Barathidasan who received the video by WhatsApp.

The video by IsmaTV claims that Klang’s reputation as a royal town and Malaysia’s image as an Islamic country would be tarnished if the Sri Sundararaja Perumal temple becomes a tourist attraction in the country.

“We in Klang see the construction of this new temple as tarnishing the image of the royal institution which is the umbrella for Islam in this country,” said Isma Klang vice chief Pathan Hussin in the video.
