Subject: 2015: View From The Gulf
We do hope the New Year 2015 has started well for all of our readers/viewers and well-wishers and for nay-sayers as well.
Here is a point of view from the “Gulf News”, a distinguished publication in the Middle-East, on “Defeating Extremists Will Be Main Focus For Region In 2015” in its lead Editorial in its issue of January 1, 2015.
It opines, “States like UAE and Saudi Arabia will play a key role in articulating the mainstream Arab and Islamic position”.
The Editorial starts: “If 2015 is to be any better than 2014, it is essential that Arab leaders realise that their response to Daesh (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) has been slow and ineffective. In 2014, the terrorists swept into a large part of western Iraq and seized power in a dramatic change of tactics as they moved to control people and territory rather than remaining outside the political arena. All this while, the Arab world looked on aghast but did not react immediately.”
On what the Western combine led by the US can achieve,it has to say: “The America-led P5+1 (comprising US, Britain, France, Russia, China + Germany) may reach a partial settlement with Iran over its controversial nuclear programme as a full agreement seems unlikely, even if desirable. Both presidencies — in Iran and the US — will have to deal with entrenched anti-deal lobbies and neither Barack Obama nor Hassan Rouhani looks strong enough to defeat opponents.”

Gulf countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia will play an increasingly dominant role in articulating the mainstream Arab and Islamic position in opposition to the fiery nonsense emerging from Daesh, which has unfortunately set the tone of the debate so far.
