At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the villagers and gamblers while the former were protesting alleged gambling, obscene dances in the name of circus at a Hindu religious fair at Basuriya village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.

Local people alleged that ‘anti-social activities’ had been going on at ‘Dashahara’ fair at the village.
A strong syndicate of gamblers, by using the name of a local Hindu community leader, managed to take permission for arranging the fair on June 2, they said.

On the other hand, the Hindu leader was totally unaware about the matter.
He submitted a complaint in this connection to the Deputy Commissioner on 6 June.

Contacted, Lalmonirhat DC Habibur Rahman said that he received the complaint and sent it to the appropriate authorities on Monday.
